Q: Our Inventory current costs get updated automatically by the Purchase Orders module as we place and receive orders. However, the system does not recalculate the selling price of our items based on the new cost. Why doesn't it do that, and is there some way to have it update prices other than manually one at a time?
A: Purchase Orders does not change your prices because most businesses prefer not to have an automatic process have that sort of power. The main problem comes in when you have shelf stock priced at one level and the system automatically re-computes a price that disagrees with that--an embarrassing situation when a customer finds they are being charged a different price than the one marked on the product.
However, if you do want to have prices recalculate automatically based on cost changes, we can accommodate that too. Just go to Inventory program 28, select the Edit option and leave the ranges open. Answer Y to Edit Price, choose Change By Percentage and set the percentage change to 0.00. This will update prices on all your items so that they are computed based on Current Cost and Markup (or Gross Profit) Percent. You can have the program automatically update the discount prices at the same time. This procedure might, depending on the volume of POs that you process, be done daily, weekly or monthly at your preference.
