Even though the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System is an extremely flexible accounting solution, specific businesses have unique needs that sometimes require custom programming. Since 1992, Roundtable has done nothing but this type of programming—specialized order entry, unique reports, data imports, etc. Now that we control the source code, we can offer even better custom solutions.

Someone from our staff will contact you to discuss the best possible solution for your needs. Be prepared to answer lots of questions—before we can design a solution we need to have a comprehensive understanding of your specific needs and your business. A few questions now can save costly reprogramming later!

Once a project is verbally defined, we will prepare a formal proposal that delineates the exact specifications and states the estimated charges for the project. All custom programming is billed based on the estimated charge—you know up front exactly what it will cost. You must sign off on the proposal and return it with a 25% non–refundable deposit before we begin programming.

Roundtable Software's custom programming can fall into any one of three categories. Each category has unique benefits:

Type 1 : External Add-On Programs
In many cases custom programming to interface with the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System can be most quickly and affordably accomplished outside of the software itself. In general terms, these tend to be programs that add entirely new functionality rather than adapting existing functionality to your specific needs. A typical example would be specialized imports. External programs interface with the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System, yet do not have as much programming overhead associated with them. These programs can either have a user interface like our off-the-shelf add-ons or, at their very simplest, be run from a DOS command line. This type of programming has the benefit that it is cheaper than adding new functionality directly into the the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System.

Type 2 : Internal Enhancements
Many custom projects adapt or add to the existing functionality of the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System in a way that may be of use to many users of the software. For instance, if you had a need for a different method for calculating salesperson commissions, we would probably suggest writing this as an internal enhancement. What this means is that on the next release of the software we would include your enhancement in the regular product as a new feature. You have to pay for the custom programming, of course, but you have the benefit of never having to worry about updating your custom program since it becomes part of the regular package. As an added benefit, if we feel that your custom programming has wide appeal we may offer a lower price on the work based on our expectation of additional sales of the product based on the addition.

Type 3 : Internal Customizations
Type 3 is exactly like type 2 except that we will not include your custom programming in subsequent general releases of the product. An example of such projects would be a highly customized order entry facility. A project that is very specific to your business will often fall into this category. The major difference between type 2 and type 3 is in cost, both immediate and long range. The immediate cost is greater than a type 2 customization because it requires a greater amount of design, programming and testing in order to meet your specific needs. Because your customization will not be added to the regular product, when you wish to purchase an update of the Roundtable Software Advantage Accounting System sometime down the road we will have to redo the custom programming in that new version of the software; essentially reprogramming your customization for each new release. Depending on the type and complexity of the project this cost may be minor or it might be almost as great as the initial programming. When you request a type 3 customization, such update charges will be disclosed in the proposal.
